Waiver Wire Week 15: Kevin Harris, Gus Edwards, DJ Chark
For those that are in the fantasy playoffs this week, congratulations! Some leagues are still in the regular season, so for you, it is more important than ever to be sure you get a win. For those in the playoffs, win and you continue. Lose and.. please keep reading our columns. Either way, if you are in the playoffs, look to improve your roster. Drop anyone that you aren’t playing (and you wouldn’t potentially mind being played against you) and grab anyone that you either will start or again, wouldn’t want to be played against you!
Quarterbacks
Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers (10 percent rostered)
The 49ers have had a hard time keeping their quarterbacks healthy this season, and Purdy is simply the latest to look good for the team while playing banged up. In Week 14, in his first start, he had 185 yards and two touchdowns. However, he did injure his oblique during the game, but all signs look to him being able to play in Week 15. He is a QB2 with upside.
Desmond Ridder, QB, Atlanta Falcons (4 percent rostered)
Ridder is an unknown commodity at this point, but we do know that he will be starting for the Falcons in Week 15. Marcus Mariota is likely headed to injured reserve but either way, the team is turning the reigns over to the rookie. Mariota wasn’t exactly playing well and Atlanta has to see Ridder on the field to get a better gauge of his development and potential. The team is 5-8 and amazingly enough, still in the playoff hunt. The NFC South is not looking like the strongest division in the league, and if Ridder plays well enough, he might just lead the team to the playoffs.
Running Backs
Kevin Harris, RB, New England Patriots (1 percent rostered)
On "Monday Night Football," Rhamondre Stevenson hurt his ankle in the first quarter. He did return to the game but was clearly in pain. He was in and out in the first half before being ruled out just after halftime, and it was Harris that was the next man up. Damien Harris was already ruled out for Week 14 with a thigh injury he suffered in Week 12. The Patriots need to find someone to run the ball, and Kevin Harris scored their first rushing touchdown since Week 7. Keep an eye on Stevenson, but Harris may be the next man up for the Patriots.
Gus Edwards, RB, Baltimore Ravens (49 percent rostered)
If J.K Dobbins (70 percent rostered) happens to be available, grab him. But Dobbins and Edwards are splitting work and both have fantasy value. Given that Lamar Jackson may be out and backup quarterback Tyler Huntley is now in the concussion protocol as well, the Ravens are going to run the ball. Edwards is typically the between-the-tackles back, so expect Edwards to have plenty of work against the Browns in Week 15.
Wide Receivers
DJ Chark, WR, Detroit Lions (40 percent rostered)
Chark should be rostered in more than 40 percent of leagues. For fantasy managers that picked him up and started him in Week 14, they were rewarded with six receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown. The six receptions matched Amon-Ra St. Brown for the most on the team, and his 94 yards were the highest on the team. Obviously, Chark is a key part of this offense, and while he might not always find the end zone or come close to 100 yards, he is a solid WR3.
Jameson Williams, WR, Detroit Lions (36 percent rostered)
As the Lions slowly bring Williams into the offense in his return from a torn ACL, he will slowly gain fantasy value. He had two targets in Week 14, but one of them was a touchdown catch. While he won't turn every other target into a score, the Lions will continue to involve him. Williams is going to be tough to trust in Week 15, but if you are in the playoffs and have an open roster spot, he is someone to grab to see how he progresses over the next week or two.
Elijah Moore, WR, New York Jets (27 percent rostered)
The Jets, hopefully with a healthy (enough) Mike White, face the Lions in Week 15. This is a good matchup for the offense, which means Moore could put up decent numbers. He had a bigger role in Week 14 because Corey Davis entered the concussion protocol. Moore ended the week with six receptions on 10 targets for 60 yards. The targets and receptions from Week 14 are season highs for Moore. He does have one touchdown on the season, and there are no guarantees that he’ll get another, but for those looking for someone who will likely provide you with 7-8 points, Moore is your guy.
Amari Rodgers and Chris Moore, WRs, Houston Texans (0 and 2 percent rostered, respectively)
For those in deep leagues or are just looking for a dart throw, look at the Texans' wide receivers. Nico Collins missed Week 14, so Rodgers and Moore stepped up. Rodgers had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown; Moore had 10 receptions for 124 yards. The quarterback situation is a mess, and the Texans face the Chiefs in Week 15, so it’s hard to recommend either wide receiver. The Texans will be throwing the ball, however, and if Collins and Brandin Cooks are out, someone needs to try to catch it.
Tight Ends
Chigoziem Okonkwo, TE, Tennessee Titans (14 percent rostered)
With Treylon Burks out in Week 13, Okonkwo had the most receiving yards on the team with 68. Burks was still out in Week 14, and Okonkwo had six targets (third on the team). He caught all six for 45 yards (also third on the team). However, he was able to find the end zone, which was his second touchdown catch of the season. The rookie tight end does still split time with Austin Hooper, but is worth considering as a tight end for those looking to fill the position.
Tyler Conklin, TE, New York Jets (26 percent rostered)
Conklin is someone that is a desperation-only tight end. He splits time with C.J. Uzomah on an offense that doesn’t exactly throw the ball a ton. The Jets face the Lions in Week 15, which is a good matchup for tight ends. They allow the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Conklin has been inconsistent, having 50 receiving yards one week followed by seven the next.
Defense/Special Teams (DST)
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals face the Broncos in Week 15, a team that is not exactly lighting up the scoreboard. Add in the fact that Russell Wilson is in the concussion protocol, and this could be a good matchup for the Cardinals DST. They did suffer some injuries on Monday night, but the matchup is a good one. Brett Rypien isn’t exactly the best quarterback and the Cardinals should get to him (again, assuming Wilson sits out).
