The defending champion Bulldogs are listed as 6.5 point favorites over Ohio State and the betting public is backing Georgia by a wide margin.

A few hours before the ball drops in Times Square on New Year’s Eve a different kind of ball will be kicking off in the Peach Bowl. Top ranked Georgia takes on Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals at 8:00 (est) on Saturday night. The Bulldogs are aiming to become the first team to repeat as National Champions since Alabama in 2011/2012.

Georgia earned the top seed in the CFP thanks to a perfect 13-0 record while Ohio State took the final spot in the semifinals with an 11-1 record. The winner of the Peach Bowl will go on to face the winner of the Fiesta Bowl (Michigan vs. TCU) in the College Football National Championship which is scheduled for January 9th

That puts Ohio State as a 6.5 point underdog and +225 on the moneyline. Bettors that put $100 on Ohio State to pull off an upset would get back $325 ($100 from the initial wager plus an additional $225 in winnings).

Unlike the bet splits for the Fiesta Bowl, the bets on Georgia and Ohio State have a big disparity. A whopping 80% of the bets against the spread are on Georgia laying the 6.5 and those bets have accounted for 88% of the handle (total money wagered).

According to DraftKings, 59% of the bets and 65% of the handle on the point total are on the over (62.5). That leaves just 41% of bettors that took the under in the minority.

As for the moneyline, it’s also a big disparity with 81% of bets and 67% of handle coming in on the defending champions. Just 19% of bettors on DraftKings are banking on Ohio State to pull off an upset.
