Nebraska Football: 5 Immediate Transfer Portal Targets on Defense

The transfer portal has only been open for a few days, but the Nebraska football program is front and center, working to corral the best and brightest available. Earlier this week, we discussed some names that could be part of Matt Rhule's first offensive depth chart in Lincoln. Today, we're covering five names of possible Blackshirts-to-be.

DL Elijah Jeudy, Texas A&M
A former 4-star recruit out of Philadelphia, Jeudy is a plug-and-play option off the edge. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder has most of his eligibility remaining as a redshirt freshman and is straight out of Rhule's backyard.
Like former Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins and quarterback Jeff Sims, there's some coach intrigue here. Nebraska also fancies Aggies defensive line coach and ace recruiter Elijah Robinson, who has an extensive history with Rhule. A package deal with Robinson and Jeudy would be a massive coup for the Big Red.
DL Andre Carter, Western Michigan
Scribbling Carter's name in the margin of your notes is a must. As a junior, he racked up 67 tackles, led the Broncos in sacks (7) and quarterback hurries (11), and forced two fumbles. The Huskers are far from the only team to notice his talents, with Auburn and Notre Dame reaching out immediately.
DE Demon Clowney, Ole Miss
An All-Name Team candidate, Clowney is the cousin of former South Carolina sensation and No. 1 NFL Draft pick Jadeveon Clowney. Genetics don't always mean success, and Demon didn't have a sparkling career with the Rebels, but big names wanted him.
Sporting offers from the likes of Georgia, LSU, and Clemson, this pickup would be based on potential. But if Rhule's going to take anything resembling a flier, this is the caliber of athlete worth the effort.
LB Amari Gainer, Florida State
After spending much of the 2022 season recovering from a lower leg injury, Gainer is ready to finish out his career in style.
Entering the transfer portal as Florida State's leading active tackler (210), he also notched six sacks and five forced fumbles over 45 games with the Seminoles.
S Corey Collier Jr., Florida
Ranked 106th overall in 2021's recruiting crop, Collier has the frame (6-2, 179) to develop into a terror in Nebraska's secondary. The Huskers have a unique recruiter here in Miami Palmetto High School teammate and current defensive back commit Dwight Bootle.
The redshirt freshman may not have clicked in Gainesville, but the Big Red could use that boost of SEC speed.
