Grayson McCall: 14 Potential Transfer Destinations for the Former Coastal Carolina QB

The three-time Sun Belt Player of the Year will finish his career at another school.

Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall announced his intentions to enter college football’s transfer portal on Monday. The North Carolina native immediately jumps to the top of the list of best signal-callers in the portal after accounting for more than 9,000 total yards in his career with the Chanticleers. McCall is an excellent runner (1,053 yards over 293 carries) and has completed 70 percent of his passes with just eight picks over 780 career attempts.

The list of suitors is expected to be lengthy for McCall, and several high-profile teams should get into the mix.

Where could McCall land as a transfer? Here are 14 teams to watch (in alphabetical order):

14 Potential Transfer Destinations for Grayson McCall

Alabama
With Bryce Young expected to enter the NFL draft, Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson are slated to battle for the starting nod. McCall would be a nice pickup in that he could play right away while Milroe and Simpson develop.

Auburn
The Tigers are slated to return Robby Ashford, but new coach Hugh Freeze could upgrade this position by landing McCall.

Florida
Top prospect Jaden Rashada will arrive in the '23 signing class, but the Gators are thin on experience here with Anthony Richardson declaring for the NFL. McCall would be a perfect one-year starting option to bridge the gap to Rashada.

Kentucky
The Wildcats are already looking in the portal for help at quarterback to replace Will Levis next year. Assuming Liam Coen does return to Lexington as the offensive coordinator, McCall would be a good fit for his scheme.

Liberty
Could McCall follow his former coach Jamey Chadwell to Liberty next year?

Missouri
Missouri returns Brady Cook and talented freshman Sam Horn but adding competition here is a must after the offense averaged only 20.4 points in SEC play this season.

NC State
The Wolfpack have two talented young signal-callers in MJ Morris and Ben Finley. However, McCall would be an immediate and proven upgrade over both. Also, he would be a great fit in new coordinator Robert Anae's system.

Nebraska
Casey Thompson could return to Lincoln in 2023, but new coach Matt Rhule will look to the portal and recruiting trail to add competition and talent to every spot on the depth chart.

Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish are reportedly in the mix for a couple of transfer quarterbacks this offseason, so a connection with McCall makes sense. Tyler Buchner is slated to return next year, but backup Drew Pyne entered the portal. Notre Dame needs someone to push Buchner and overall depth at the position.

Oklahoma State
Spencer Sanders entered the portal, leaving the Cowboys with Gunnar Gundy and Garret Rangel as the front-runners to start in 2023.

South Carolina
If Spencer Rattler declares for the NFL, could the Gamecocks look to the portal for another starting quarterback for the second year in a row?

Tennessee
The Volunteers might be a longshot (but are still worth a mention) in the McCall sweepstakes with Joe Milton returning and five-star prospect Nico Iamaleavea on the way.

UCLA
With Dorian Thompson-Robinson off to the NFL, the Bruins could hit the portal for help at quarterback. McCall's mobility and arm would be a good fit (and easy transition from DTR) to run coach Chip Kelly's high-powered offense.

Wisconsin
The Badgers are making a significant scheme shift with new coach Luke Fickell hiring former North Carolina play-caller Phil Longo to implement a spread attack in Madison. With Graham Mertz transferring, Wisconsin is thin on depth and doesn't have a proven starter for next year.
